Slow Market at Oude Libertas – Picture Review

Slow Market

Markets seem to be very ‘in’ in South Africa, or at least in the Cape Town/Winelands region where we live. Every weekend you’ll find hundreds of people flocking to various markets and I have to confess I don’t always understand it. Sure, they generally sell interesting food, clothes and crafts. Some have live music. Some have good views and great outdoors spaces where kids can run around and the whole family can enjoy themselves. Continue reading

Hill & Dale Sundowner Picnic Concert – or how to spend a Friday night!

Stellenzicht- View

What a shame that we only got around to attending the final Sundowner Picnic Concert for this summer season at Stellenzicht, and didn’t go any sooner! Every last Friday of the month from September to March, Guy Webber and his Hill & Dale team present sundowner concerts at Stellenzicht Wine Estate and sadly the first one we attended was also the last one for the current season. Last night we finally managed to dine at Guardian Peak, after trying unsuccessfully a couple of times before (once my fault, once their fault). This time we went for a special occasion as it was the gorgeous young engineer’s graduation yesterday so we had something special to celebrate! Guardian Peak is in Hidden Valley and has beautiful views, so we made sure we arrived at the restaurant with enough time to catch the last of the light in order to get some nice pictures. Yesterday we ended up at Rust en Vrede due to another establishment lower down in the valley not being able to accommodate us. I say ‘ended up’ like it’s a bad thing, but I was secretly very, very pleased as I’ve been meaning to visit Rust en Vrede for lunch but as they don’t serve beer it’s been a hard sell! The life of a self proclaimed foodie isn’t always glamorous and I don’t always hang out in Fine Dining establishments like Equus or gorgeous places like Babylonstoren. Sometimes you just have to eat because you’re hungry or you need a quick bite and you can’t be bothered to cook, and then you fall back on stalwarts like Jimmy the Fish. Continue reading

Over the last few months I’ve done extensive research and spoke to countless people about which restaurants to visit in and around Stellenbosch, and I’ve gathered a LOT of information. I happened upon Beyerskloof’s restaurant, Red Leaf, and their famous Pinotage Burger by chance when a friend mentioned that they went there for lunch and that I should give it a try. 21 Day Fix Review – Autumn Already!

Yesterday I finished 21 Day Fix, a BeachBody programme by ‘Celebrity Trainer’ Autumn Calabrese. Basically the idea is that you follow the programme for three weeks, eat according to their plan and you end up with the body you always wanted. Now, clearly three weeks is never going to be enough for some people as it very much depends on your starting point, so it is a rather bold claim to make!  Continue reading
