We were staying at the top end of Kloof Street for the night, so as soon as we dropped off our bags and parked the car we ventured out. Hudson’s has been on my list to try for burgers for a while so we had to stop off there for lunch. Hudson’s is an informal dining option, with a good selection of shakes, cold drinks, beers and cocktails so there’s no danger that you’ll go thirsty! The main focus as their name implies, is of course burgers and they have around twenty different options on their menu, with beef, ostrich, chicken and veggie burgers covered. You can also order your burger in either a 180g or 250g size which to me is a very sensible idea. Sides are ordered separately, another sensible idea if you just want a fairly small lunch or dinner. There’s of course also salads and starters as well as grills to choose from but I didn’t pay those too much attention.
We started off with some drinks and Fishop had a Jack Black while I tried to be good with a Passionfruit Iced Tea, which fortunately didn’t taste too much of tea! Fishop ordered The Plain Jane and I got The Poppa Trunks as I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Chilli Poppers and The Poppa Trunks comes with cheddar cheese, feta, sweet chilli sauce and topped with a chilli popper. The Plain Jane is as its name implies, served plain ‘with no interruptions’ (except the basting!). For a side we ordered a bowl of onion rings. Service was efficient and friendly and our food came fairly quickly, which makes this a good option for a quick lunch. The burgers were both very good as was the onion rings and we had no complains whatsoever. Tasty burgers at a reasonable price – what’s not to like?!
