We were staying at the top end of Kloof Street for the night, so as soon as we dropped off our bags and parked the car we ventured out. Hudson’s has been on my list to try for burgers for a while so we had to stop off there for lunch. Hudson’s is an informal dining option, with a good selection of shakes, cold drinks, beers and cocktails so there’s no danger that you’ll go thirsty! Continue reading →
For dinner we had a reservation at the (fairly) recently opened branch of Carne in Kloof Street, just around the corner from our guest house. It was a VERY hot day in Cape Town and it was stiflingly hot inside the restaurant. This was one evening we really could have done with sitting outside! Continue reading →
The title for today’s post was inspired by a friend asking me on Facebook whether Creation Wines was a Christian farm, due to the name (she was being facetious!). Well, I wouldn’t know about that, but it did make me think and what I do know is that drinking and enjoying wine is close to a religion for me and I never pass up the opportunity to try out new wine related experiences like this one. Last night was another gorgeous evening in the Winelands and we ended up dining at Equus, the restaurant at Cavalli Wine & Stud Farm. Turning off the busy R44 you enter a quiet world of indigenous plants framing the long and impressive driveway up to the restaurant. The building that greets you is very striking, with a beautiful living wall and magnificent views of the mountains. We decided to sit outside on the deck overlooking the dam and have a drink before taking our seats inside. Equus really has some amazing views and I fully intend to return for lunch to enjoy the view again. Continue reading →
I’ve been eyeing up the Towerbosch Sunday Country Feast for ages, and when I saw that Luna Paige and Gerald Clarke would be doing their Lovemore show there last Sunday I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to go and check it out. I booked well in advance to make sure we got a table and we turned up early on the day to make sure we could get some pictures. Lunch starts at twelve and shortly after twelve most people were there to enjoy the Sunday Country Feast. Continue reading →
On the spur of the moment we drove to Jonkershoek yesterday afternoon and ended up having lunch at Postcard Café at Stark-Condé Wines. As it was approaching 2pm we didn’t expect to have any problems getting a table. On arrival the outside seating area was pretty full but we found a table that was free, and as so often is the case, seated ourselves as there was nobody on hand to receive us. After a couple of minutes a bustling waitress came up to inform us very bluntly that the table was reserved and that we couldn’t sit there. Continue reading →
The Dorp Street Deli (DSD) experience was not entirely new to me as I’ve had a burger there a couple of years back, and really enjoyed it then. Considering the amount of restaurants I want to visit in the next 2-3 months (Check out my list!) you may well wonder why I then decided to go back to one I’ve been to before?! Well, that would be because 1 – DSD always looks enticing when we drive by, 2 – it is fairly close to where we live and therefore an easy option for lunch and 3 – the food should be good if past experience is anything to go by. I’m afraid my pictures donsn’t do the Deli justice, but trust me – it is a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy a glass of something cold.
