The title for today’s post was inspired by a friend asking me on Facebook whether Creation Wines was a Christian farm, due to the name (she was being facetious!). Well, I wouldn’t know about that, but it did make me think and what I do know is that drinking and enjoying wine is close to a religion for me and I never pass up the opportunity to try out new wine related experiences like this one. Last night was another gorgeous evening in the Winelands and we ended up dining at Equus, the restaurant at Cavalli Wine & Stud Farm. Turning off the busy R44 you enter a quiet world of indigenous plants framing the long and impressive driveway up to the restaurant. The building that greets you is very striking, with a beautiful living wall and magnificent views of the mountains. We decided to sit outside on the deck overlooking the dam and have a drink before taking our seats inside. Equus really has some amazing views and I fully intend to return for lunch to enjoy the view again. Continue reading

Simply Asia is another of those places I keep driving past, thinking I should really stop by and try out their food. I really like noodles and Thai food so yesterday I finally decided to drop in and satisfy my noodle cravings. Simply Asia is a chain of affordable restaurants with a large selection of noodles, curries, stir-fries and sushi – such a large selection in fact that it is quite hard to decide what to eat! I eventually decided on the Thai Dim Sum Combo for a starter, and the Large Rice Noodles with Chicken for a main.
The restaurant wasn’t that busy so service was quick and efficient. I was warned that my Dim Sum would take a while to cook, which is fine – but after waiting for ages the Dim Sum arrived cold and not steaming hot as expected? Not too sure why, but it tasted nice enough. In short order the noodles arrived as well and it was pretty good, though not spectacular. I was probably spoiled in England with the presence of Wagamama restaurants everywhere; I would say Simply Asia is following the same basic principles but maybe not executing it quite as well. This won’t stop me from going back again as I love Asian food and I will need my fix from time to time!
Simply Asia has a lot of vegetarian options and the food is fairly inexpensive though drinks were more than I expected to pay.

I’ve been eyeing up the Towerbosch Sunday Country Feast for ages, and when I saw that Luna Paige and Gerald Clarke would be doing their Lovemore show there last Sunday I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to go and check it out. I booked well in advance to make sure we got a table and we turned up early on the day to make sure we could get some pictures. Lunch starts at twelve and shortly after twelve most people were there to enjoy the Sunday Country Feast. Continue reading

Now, each time I either drive or walk past Oppie Dorp the place is absolutely packed. Reading the Tripadvisor reviews everybody raves about the place, so it seems obvious why it is always so busy. Last week I decided to beat the rush and book well in advance so I could try out the Oppie Dorp experience for myself. I went into the restaurant to book a table for 6 and duly watched the waiter write our booking down for Friday night – boy was I looking forward to this – I could hardly wait for Friday to arrive! We went to the Hussar Grill on Valentine’s day but I never posted a review as I didn’t take pictures and frankly, I just wanted to enjoy myself and not think too much about what to post or how critical I need to be about food and service. We did have a very good meal then, even though I don’t have photographic evidence – and I even wore an LBD!
On the spur of the moment we drove to Jonkershoek yesterday afternoon and ended up having lunch at Postcard Café at Stark-Condé Wines. As it was approaching 2pm we didn’t expect to have any problems getting a table. On arrival the outside seating area was pretty full but we found a table that was free, and as so often is the case, seated ourselves as there was nobody on hand to receive us. After a couple of minutes a bustling waitress came up to inform us very bluntly that the table was reserved and that we couldn’t sit there. Continue reading
